Another Saturday and a lot of hard work has been happening behind the scenes to make sure our house is in order and we have competitive hard fought cricket each week.
The first team were home to new comers Old Actonians and on a gloomy overcast day MTSSC were put in to bat after losing the toss. Having not seen the opposition bowling line up before Ragu and Mustafa went in to build on their opening partnership. The Old Actonians openers though had different ideas and the 6ft 17 year old pacey steamed in bowling at good pace, good bounce, swing, seam and deadly accuracy. MTSSC were reeling after some great bowling and were left at 29 for 4. But another great knock from the skipper (Niro) managed to arrest the collapse with excellent support from Kasan who both batted with disciple but also ensuring the bowlers didn’t get on top punishing every bad ball and picking up quick single. This lead us to 80 odd for 4 at 25 overs.
Unfortunately though with eagerness to get to 50, Niro called a suicidal run when he was on 46 and ran out Kasan who was set and ready to begin an onslaught (worst timing ever). Niro then took the responsibility to ensure he continues and hit a boundary to take him to fifty and then an out of character 6 straight over the bowlers head before getting caught behind to a glen Mcgrath like delivery and a sublime one handed catch by the keeper who took it at 1st slip. Again collapse looked imminent until Kavi who marked his returned with a hard fought 61 who was support by the ever so reliable Abdul who batted slowly to ensure he didn’t give his wicket away and both put on a 80 + partnership to ensure we finished on 217 all out in 55 overs.
From past experience chasing at the post office is always hard, so the boys were optimistic we could sneak a positive result here. But again OA CC had other ideas as the openers started in typical T20 fashion smashin the ball to all parts, and after both Kavi and Z got injuries whilst bowling did force the skipper to bring the spinners early. Although we took a few wicket, there was never really any pressure on the opposition and the two young batsmen’s knocked off the runs with a 100 partnership and finished the game with 1 over to spare.
Highlights are Niro and Kavis 60 runs, Abduls and Kasans support roles, and again Ragu bowling well with little luck. The top order needs to get in better shape, bowlers need consistency and we have to take our catches boys or we will be fighting a uphill battle to stay up. Luckily we have time on our hands by time runs out. Let’s just go out and enjoy ourselves and the rest will happen naturally.
