Being a cup final day Teddington arrived late but won the toss and put MTSSC in to bat. It was a delayed start by 20 minutes. Not that it was impacting Pradeep's batting as he set about punishing anything short and swinging hard at anything outside off stump. Teddington got an early wicket but at 56-1 off 9 overs, a challenging target looked in the offing. Pradeep then attempted to hit Mo for a maximum over cow corner as usual and ended up being caught in the deep. The loss of the Pradeep coupled with good bowling from Teddington put the brakes on the scoring and a mini collapse occured with Ramanan,Joseph and Murali back in the pavilion and the score became 64-4 off 15 overs.
Then Sendi and Dharan parked the bus and carried on till the drinks break with the score trickling along. Teddington spinners were bowling with close in fielders and Sendi fell trying to break the shackles. Kala dispatched a couple of boundaries in his first few loose deliveries and Dharan also changed gears to up the scoring rate to take MTSSC past the 100 mark. But when dharan was caught in midwicket it seemed like MTSSC would fold for a below par score. Thana hit a monstrous six but he was out caught trying to do the same again. When Mannan was out LBW the score was at 140 for 9. Then Lingam and Kala played sensibly with Lingam playing responsibly to protect his wicket and Kala putting away any bad balls to the boundary. Coupled with aggressive running between the wickets the they put on 44 runs for the 10th wicket and took the score to a competitive 184 while also using up the overs before Lingam was out LBW. This was Kala's first 50 for the club.
Below is a quote from the Match report by Teddington:
"It should also be mentioned that the Tamils gave two lbw decisions in our favour. They have often been maligned for favouring their own players, so it is only right they deserve positive comment when deserved."
So 185 to win off 44 overs Teddington lost a wicket at 1o runs to Murali. Thana however had a shoulder strain and had to stop after 5 Overs and Kala replaced him in the attack. Then Murali and Kala went about bowling tight lines and as Murali was difficult to get away Teddington batsmen tried to go after Kala and Lost 2 wickets to him. Murali was unlucky to not get wickets with LBW's not going our way and a dropped sitter which came back to haunt MTSSC. The dropped batsman went on to make a 50.
With no further wickets and Sloppy fielding aiding the Teddington score MTSSC was drifting out of the game and made a bowling change to bring on Lingam who got 2 quick wickets to open the door for MTSSC.However Teddington again slowly recovered to 135 for 5 before MTSSC brought back the Murali into the attack. He went on to take two wickets to reduce Teddington to 147 for 7. However that was the last bit of success MTSSC enjoyed. MTSSC went about trying to get the Yorkers in but the misdirected full tosses that were delivered went for boundaries rather than the singles and twos they should have been and 3 such overs later MTSSC had ended up with a defeat. It is a disappointment to lose as slack effort in the final stretch undermined the good work done by the MTSSC lower order batsmen and a marathon bowling effort led by Murali. We need to make sure that we don't gift many points at home if we have to strong season.
