Another Milestone Set in the Short History of the MTSSC Colts
Friday 29th June, 2012
Under 17 Fixture – Division 1
Middlesex Tamil Sports & Social Club V Stanmore Cricket Club at the Stanmore CC Grounds
Friday the 29th of June saw another milestone set in the short history of the MTSSC colts. The club’s Under17’s playing their first division 1 game became the first colts team to play a division 1 league game. The team went on to beat Stanmore CC, a long standing club that was setup over 100 years ago, which consisted of a couple of Middlesex players in the Reingold brothers. Stanmore won the toss and put MTSSC in to bat on a cloudy and somewhat blustery evening. MTSSC went on to score 70 runs in their allotted 20 overs, Tharushka top scoring with 15 runs. Stanmore CC’s wicket keeper James Worthington had a brilliant day behind the stumps as he was involved in six of the MTSSC wickets. The total seemed to be below par, but the MTSSC youngsters seemed to have the desire and determination to fight their way towards victory.
MTSSC started the defence by opening the bowling with skipper Shane at one end and leg spinner Praveen at the other. The conditions ensured runs were hard to come by for Stanmore CC as their batsmen struggled to cope with the guile and variation of Praveen. However, Stanmore CC looked favourites to win the game until the latter stages of the match when they had to get just 16 runs off the last 4 overs with 4 wickets in hand. MTSSC’s U17’s refused to concede defeat though as they fought back to claim the final four wickets and win the match by 5 runs. It was a brilliant display that exhibited the team spirit, determination and positive attitude the team seems to have developed this season.
