Under 15’s march on to Plate Final

We had our plate semi final game against Lohana CC on Sunday the 31st of July at our home grounds. Lohana won the toss and elected to take first lease of the wicket. Lohana started slowly and at one stage were only 26 runs for the loss of 1 wicket at the end of the 7th over. This wicket came off the bowling of Beeshman with Praveen who kept wickets for the first half of the game taking a smart catch. Lohana then put on some good partnerships and accelerated the scoring to end on 113 for the loss of 4 wickets. A Patel with 34, Niraj Somani with 25 n.o and Kishan Vaghela with 16 were their main contributors. In the bowling department, Praveen was our most successful bowler ending up with figures of 4.0.23.2 whilst Beeshman had figures of 3.0.18.1. Even though Tharushka and Rahman didn’t take any wickets they bowled well to have figures of 4.1.13.0 and 4.1.11.0 respectively. We did however concede 27 extras which took Lohana over the 100 run mark. Lohana were also able to get to their final total as they had wickets in hand to accelerate in the second half of their innings. So if we were to win this game we had to make sure that we had some good partnerships.

We opened the batting with Ram and Seerone and they gave us a reasonable start by putting on 35 runs for the first wicket before Seerone was caught for 15 in the 9th over. We were going at just under 4 runs an over at this point. We then lost Ram in the very next over with the total on 43. Ram played well and his six over long on was a delightful shot. We needed to put on a good partnership and we did this through Praveen and Rahman. The two of them put on 47 runs for the 3rd wicket before Rahman was caught for 24 off 20 balls in the 16th over. We were well on our way at this point requiring only 24 off the last 4 overs which was a run a ball. Praveen was then joined by Ashwin who was unfortunately given out LBW to a ball that looked to be going down leg side in the first ball that he faced. We were now 90 for 4 in the 17th over and in came Tharushka to the crease. Tharushka and Praveen took us to 108 at the end of the 18th over. We now required only 6 runs off the last 2 overs. Tharushka however only needed 2 balls and scored 2 consecutive boundaries in the first 2 balls of the 19th over to take us to 116 for the loss of 4 wickets. We had won the match by 6 wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Praveen who was made captain for this game was our highest scorer with 31 not out. This was an excellent innings and he came in when we were 43 for 2 in the 10th over. He batted sensibly to take his team to victory. Rahman with 24, Ram with 22, Seerone with 15 and Tharushka with 10 off only 4 balls were our other contributors. It must however be said that lady luck was on our side as Lohana dropped a few simple catches and also misjudged a few which should have been taken.

So the under 15’s march on to their first plate final and we await our opponents.
