Under 17’s beat Division 1 runners up Uxbridge in League play off game

Congratulations Boys

We had another piece of great news from our colts. The U17’s won their League playoff game against Division 1 side Uxbridge at their home grounds. We won the game by 13 runs.

Well done and congratulations on this excellent achievement. It was great team work and excellent captaincy by Prashanth. Boys you all have made MTSSC a proud club in the Middlesex cricket Arena. It is a record breaking win over Uxbridge and this is our first League playoff win in the MTSSC Colts history. We will be now playing another team from another area of the Middlesex League.

U17 team after play off game against Uxbridge
Uxbridge won the toss and put us in to bat. We had a very slow start and at the end of 11 overs we had only scored 30 runs for the loss 3 wickets. The middle order batsman Praveen and Tony then accelerated the scoring. The 12th over marked the turning point where we scored 14 runs. Then the next 4 overs we were scoring at 8 runs per over. From the batsmen Praveen, Tony and Tharushka batted well. Tony had a great knock scoring 22 runs in just 9 balls and hit a huge 6 onto the bowling green. Unfortunately the ball hit an elderly lady in the tennis court. At the end of our 20 overs we scored 115 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Ram – 04
Seerone – 11
Prashanth -11
Vimal – 03
Praveen -17
Tony – 22
Tharushka -15
Ashwin – 08 (Not Out)
Shane, Beeshman and Pira did not bat.

Uxbridge were very confident when they came out to chase our total of 115. Pira took an excellent catch in the second ball of the first over bowled by Prashanth. Uxbridge had lost their first wicket with no runs on the board. However they were cruising at the half way stage of 10 overs as they had scored 53 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets, Shane then took their important wicket in his 4th over. He dismissed their key batsman who had been scoring well in every U17 league game that he played in. Prashanth, Tony and Praveen took a catch each to keep up the pressure. Tharushka also bowled superbly and all the other bowlers Vimal, Praveen and Tony bowled well too.

From the 16th Over Uxbridge started to feel the pressure and they constantly lost wickets. They still thought that they could beat us easily in the last over as they required 15. However they had two run outs and a wicket in the last 10 balls of their innings to end up being all out for 102 with 2 balls remaining. Ram, Beeshman, Seerone and Ashwin fielded very well. Our keeper Pira had a great game behind the stumps.

Overall our boys gave an excellent performance in all departments and surprised Uxbridge the Division 1 runners up in the MCA league by beat them by 13 runs. The Uxbridge senior players who were watching the game never thought that we would beat them and at the end of the game came up to me and congratulated our boys and wished them good luck in the next round.

Prashanth: 3 – 0 – 11 – 2
Shane: 4 – 1 – 16 – 2
Vimal: 3 – 0 – 17 – 1
Praveen: 2 – 0 – 13 – 0
Tony: 4 -0 – 22 – 1
Tharushka: 3.3 – 0 – 18 -2

Congratulation Boys we will be playing the Quarter Final against a Team in the Central area and this has proved that we are capable of beating anyone. Boys keep up the winning momentum and good luck for your next game.

Thanks to Mano for taking our U17 to this stage, thanks to all the parents, our Club Chairman and the Secretary for being there to support our boys throughout the game.

Thanks to Prashanth’s Dad Bernard for buying the drinks for the boys and parents.

Our Colts continue to make MTSSC a recognised club on and off the field in the Middlesex Cricket Arena.

Thank you

A very proud and happy Colts Secretary
