MCA League Match : MTSSC vs Ruislip played at home on 21/06/2010
MTSSC lost by 7 runs.
Ruislip 100 for 3 wickets. MTSSC 93 all out
Ruislip won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny evening. Even though our bowlers kept the run rate down initially, there were not many wicket taking balls. Ruislip’s star batsman George Wickham, once again played beautifully and scored a well deserved half century. He was very clever in rotating the strike, and he and his partners ran their singles very well. Priyan was the pick of our bowlers taking 2 wickets in one over with Daniel giving him good support. All our bowlers, most of the time, either bowled wide or bowled short. Ruislip scored exactly 100 runs in their 20 overs.
It was a challenging target but within the reach of our batsmen. But disaster stuck in the 2nd ball, when MTSSC batted. Our key batsman Naresh got himself run out by attempting a run that never existed. It was a pity as a few overs with Naresh at the crease would have meant we had loads of runs on the board. A key batsman like Naresh getting run out in the 2nd ball of the innings was a crime, and I am sure Naresh would have learned his lesson now and will be wiser next time round. For the 2nd match in succession Priyan got caught playing an uppish lofted drive. Rishi came in at the fall of Naresh wickets and played well but lost partners at regular intervals. Rishi kept the asking rate under control by hitting some lusty blows all round the wicket. At the end of the 17th over, we were 88 runs for 7 wickets and victory was within our reach. But then Rishi played one shot too many and got clean bowled for 41 runs. He was involved in 2 good partnerships with Liam and Purushot. After Rishi’s wicket, the tail folded meekly and we were all out for 93 runs and lost the match by 7 runs.
