MCA League Match : MTSSC vs Ruislip played at home on 03/05/2010
MTSSC 106 for 3 from 20 overs
Aran 9, Rishi 8, Hishanth 6 and Priyan 24 n.o
Ruislip 85 for 7 from 20 overs
Kristien 24 & George 17
Our captain Rishi won the toss and elected to bat. We had no hestitation in batting first and our intention was to put a good total on the board. Our openers were never in trouble against their opening bowlers but had trouble in keeping the scoreboard moving. One of the reason could be that the opposition were bowling very much outside the off stump and our boys had difficulty in reaching those balls. We lost both our openers in the same over when they tried to accelarate the scoring. The score was 42 at that time. Then we had a very good partnership of 59 runs between our captain Rishi and our Vice Captain Priyan. Priyan in particular played some good attacking shots including some sweep shots to accelarate the scoring and remained unbeaten on 24 runs.We finished with 106 runs for the loss of 3 wickets when our innings concluded at the end of 20 overs.
When Ruislip batted, Naresh and Priyan opened the bowling and kept the run rate down and put the pressure on their batsmen. Then Prushot came in as first change and bamboozled the batsmen with his swing and accuracy. It was a simple case of “ if you miss, I hit” and it showed in his spell of 4 overs 1 maiden 9 runs and 5 wickets and 3 of those wickets were clean bowled. It was good to see a kid, who is just 9 years old and who can play in our U11 age group for another 2 years doing so well. It augurs well for the future of the MTSSC U11 age group. All the other bowlers also bowled wicket to wicket and did not give that many extras in wides or no balls. Our ground fielding was generally good but there is still room for improvement. Even the new boys who joined our club this year fielded well. Priyan took 2 good catches Because we had a good total to defend it gave us the freedom to try out 8 bowlers in this match and I hope in future matches also our batsmen will give us the same luxury of defending a big total. I was also impressed with Rishi’s captaincy and I liked some of his ideas about his bowling changes. At the end of their 20 overs, Ruislip scored 85 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and we won the match by 21 runs.
My Man of the match is Prushot Sadagopan for his 5 wicket haul.
Key moments in the match were Priyan’s attacking innings of 24 runs, and also when Aran bowled their opener George when he started to score quickly and looked like he might win the match for Ruislip.
