MCA League Match : MTSSC vs OMT played at home on 28/06/2010
MTSSC won by 8 wickets
OMT 98 for 2 wickets. MTSSC 100 for 2 wickets
By mutual consent, it was decided OMT should bat first. Rishi and Priyan opened the bowling for us, and within 3 overs we had taken 2 quick wickets and at that time the score was just 5 runs. Rishi had taken both the wickets . We kept a tight control on the score and by the end of 12 overs OMT had crawled to about 40 runs. But once again our bowlers were not penetrative enough and couple of missed catches did not help our cause and we were not able to take any additional wickets . Gradually OMT batsmen gained in confidence and increased the scoring tempo and in the final over of the innings they scored 22 runs which increased their final total to 98 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Rishi was the pick of the bowlers with an excellent figure of 4 overs 1 maiden, 2 wickets for 8 runs. At the start of the OMT innings we were hoping to restrict them to under 70 runs , but the last few overs made a difference and we let OMT post a competitive total 98 runs.
When we batted, Naresh fell early in the 1st over itself, to a good yorker from the OMT fast bowler. Priyan joined Liam and both batted sensibly and slowly inched their way towards the OMT total. Liam played some good cover drives and was able rotate the strike whereas Priyan was very watchful in defence and played some copybook defensive shots. Except one uppish cover drive which eluded a leaping OMT player and went for a four, Priyan was very careful in his offside shot selection. Liam and Priyan put on a useful 58 runs partnership and Liam’s contribution was 15 runs. Liam got out bowled when trying to up the tempo, and then Rishi joined Priyan and they formed an unbeaten partnership of 42 runs to take MTSSC home. Priyan finished the match off with 2 beautifully stuck fours and Rishi was his usual self, playing some powerful shots all round the wicket. When the match finished Rishi remained unbeaten on 14 runs with 2 fours whereas Priyan was not out with 22 runs with 3 fours. So MTSSC won the match by 8 wickets with 9 balls to spare but the score card do not tell the full story. The match was too close for comfort. It was very tense and beautifully balanced until the last couple of overs.
So now we have one match left against Hayes next Monday.
Man of the match was Priyan for his purposeful and determined batting which saw the team home safely.
Key Moment of the match – Last over of OMT innings when their batsman took 22 runs which made their total from being a comfortable target to a challenging target. Except for a couple of balls on leg side, Naresh did bowl according to plan but the OMT batsman Owen knew what was needed to boost their total and executed his shots to perfection.
