MCA League Match : MTSSC vs Hayes played at home on 17/05/2010
MTSSC won by 71 runs
MTSSC 135 runs for 3 wickets and Hayes 64 runs for 6 wickets.
Hayes won the toss and elected to field. We had a new opening pair in Naresh and Liam, and they played really well with some attacking shots taking the game to the opposition team and putting them on the back foot, right from the start. Runs were flowing freely and Hayes’ sloppy catching and fielding did not help their cause at all. Naresh was on the attack most of the time and was very strong on the leg side with Liam giving him good support and in no time they put 71 runs on the board in only the 12th over. Both of them got out stumped when they advanced to the spinners to quicken the scoring rate. Naresh scored a quick 40 with 5 boundaries, and Liam scored 19 runs with 3 boundaries with some well placed shots. Priyan and Rishi continued the good work and formed another useful and quick partnership of 60 runs before Priyan got out to the last ball of the innings. Rishi was unbeaten on 23 runs with 1 massive six to square leg and 2 fours while Priyan scored 22 runs with 2 fours. It was good to see Rishi playing some crisp cover and straight drives and Priyan once again excelling in sweep shots. At the end of the 20 overs, we scored 135 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
When Hayes batted, they started off well but once we broke their opening partnership, with a help of a stunning catch from Prushot, wickets fell regularly and we were always in control. Even the newcomers like Divyesh, Anuru and Daniel bagged a wicket each. Divyesh took a very good reflex caught and bowled, and Daniel turned the ball frequently and beat their batsmen. Akatheeyan, the new Wicket keeper, kept wickets well and was supportive to the bowlers, very vocal and showed authority behind the stumps. We bowled few no balls and wides in this game. At the end of the 20 overs , Hayes limped to 64 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, and MTSSC won the match by a big margin of 72 runs and recorded their 3rd consecutive win of the season.
Man of the match – Naresh , for his attacking innings of 40 runs and bowling tidily for 3 overs.
Key Moment of the match, or maybe for the season – When Prushot came running from mid on and dived forward and took that stunning catch. I have never seen a boy taking a catch like this in the U11 age group before. To see boys like Prushot performing like this shows, all our hard work in the past few years is paying dividends and good quality young cricketers are coming through our ranks. For me, when I saw him take that catch, I knew the future of MTSSC U11 age group is in good shape for years to come.
